.In a passionate and compelling way Ashar Khan tells his truth. His songs about life deal with issues we all can relate to. Ashar creates soulful urban tunes inspired by the human experience. His immaculate blend of Soul, R&B, and Blues creates a distinct sound that breaks open a new dimension in music. Life’s struggles are passionately conveyed through his pleasing intimate vocal delivery, descriptive lyrics, heartfelt melodies, and out of the box acoustic rhythms. His music is meaningful and sincere, and a cause to stop and reflect.
Ashar’s parents arrived in Sweden in the late 70’s, and he was born 1979 in Gothenburg- the second largest city in Sweden. His childhood was filled with Bollywood movies, Pakistani folk music and Afro-American tunes which together made a powerful soundtrack to the Swedish scenery. These influences were a fertile ground for developing an open sense of musicality.
His first step into the musical scene was taken through hip-hop at fourteen. Finding and extending his vocal abilities, inspired him to take steps towards singing. He broadened his interest embracing funk, jazz and soul. Being open minded towards music he ended up in all kinds of musical surroundings, still having contacts in hip-hop while entering into soul, house and folk music. At the age of nineteen he joined the group Giddabush, which gathered the world on one set. Blending Nordic, aboriginal, Indian, North and West African music into one sound-scape. Playing on such a set and making borders between genres, colours and races disappear embodies Ashar’s ambition to make universal music and not a certain limited style or genre.
During his trip through the world of music he has had many chances to play at different venues and in many orchestras and constellations. He has collaborated with artist doing Hip-Hop and Soul, and this way still keeping that first part of the path very much alive within him.
"Foremost I have to be humble and submit myself willingly to the One´s will, because the Almighty One is the one who decides my future, the only thing I can do is keep going and never forget this truth, this reality." Ashar Khan
